I've been a little slow at posting recently due to busy summer happenings and lots of commissions.  Here is one of the completed animal portraits.  I've never owned cats, always dogs, so painting them is always a little challenging.  Fun but challenging.  For me, the animal's personality, or what I perceive as their personality, is what I'm after.

Spencer Tracy, The Cat

So this is Spencer Tracy in a basket.  That is not something I thought I would ever say :-)  This was one of two commissions I was fortunate to be asked to paint.  I should refer to this as "Big Eyes," because those eyes are truly amazing.  They were a challenge.  I needed to get that glow and am pretty happy with the outcome.  With every painting I learn something new.  How lucky I feel!

Baby Boy

"Baby Boy" is a commission I did for the owner of CJ's Coffee and Sandwich Shop, a favorite place of mine for breakfast and lunch.  This is his mother's cat, and he gave the painting to her as a Christmas present. Actually, this is the first cat I have painted and it seemed to just flow, so I may have to do more :-)  When I asked what the cat's name is, I got several answers.  Apparently, the cat has an identity problem, but the definitive answer was "Baby Boy." "Baby Boy" gave me a chance to have fun experimenting with mixing colors.  I am told he is part Coon cat, quite large and definitely furry...I really appreciated the opportunity to do this painting, so thank you Chris :-)

A Quiet Resting Place

I'm sure hoping this wasn't a permanent resting place...The cat's family might object  to me painting this in such a cavalier manner.  I think the cat found a spot away from foot traffic to take a nap.  One can only hope.  I'm a dog person, so painting cats is new to me and I'm not up on their habits.  Anyway, here is my version of a perfectly healthy cat taking a nap :-)
