From a wonderful exhibit at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, VA; a young girl about the same age as Trayvon Martin here, studying the image. Alice Beasley created this fiber portrait which reminds the viewer of the "senseless killing of African American young lives." This piece and others are for an upcoming exhibit at Goose Creek Studio and Custom Framing in Bedford, VA entitled "Sacred Bodies". More info to follow.

For me, painting is a good way to avoid thinking about the horror that occurred in Orlando.  My heart goes out to all those involved.  This touches us all.

This is another in my art patron series...This one of a little girl with a huge backpack (and a teddy bear) studying Norman Rockwell's depiction of little Ruby Bridges, a six year old, headed to an all white public school in 1960.  She is surrounded by guards and walks with determination and pride. The painting was one of many in the recent Rockwell show at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, VA.  I'd love to say things have changed since the 60's, but have they??

Explore Park Fall Plein Air

Yesterday a group of artist friends and I went to paint at Explore Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 115 in Roanoke, VA.  I really enjoyed being with the others and taking in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the expansive countryside.  I only had time to complete this painting, however, because the weather changed from a cool, sunny morning to a cold, gray, windy afternoon.  I wore my husband's windbreaker jacket and came home with more paint on it than on my Gessobord.  I seemed to rest my entire arm in the Titanium White on my easel and then (due to the cold) wrap on arms around my body...I had paint all over it.  So...Really, I completed two paintings.  One on the Gessobord and a white abstract on a navy background.
