I've been working on figure studies lately. It's all a learning experience, but then again, isn't everything?! Since I took this photo of the painting, I changed the background. I will post the new one and you can let me know which you prefer and maybe tell me why....Another learning experience :-)

This artist found himself a great place to set up his easel and umbrella.  He was so caught up in what he was painting, he didn't even know I was there watching him.

Tidal Pool

The beach was deserted this particular morning, except for this beautiful woman walking slowly through a tidal pool that had formed.  The early morning sun reflected off her body leaving just form with little detail.  I loved that and really love the way this painting came out!

Noon at Emerald Isle

Empty beach, sand, sun, beautiful beach houses, waves crashing, seagulls talking....Ahhhh!  Truly a moment of Zen.  Summer at its finest.  I really find that when I have a passion for a subject, the painting seems to flow.  I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but it's so true, for me at least.  When I was painting this, I really felt like I was placing actual sand on my painting surface rather than paint, and I could feel the softness of the clouds...It's definitely Zen.

I've been doing a lot of commissions lately and felt the need to paint this man once again; something totally different.  I painted him a while ago and have always loved his "Charlie Chaplin" look...  Really a silhouette.   It's always good to change things up every now and then.  Now I go back to the commissions with a new passion.  I really love doing them :-)   I consider this little painting a warm up.  Actually, each painting is a warm up to what's next...Right?!

This is another painting that practically painted itself.  I'm not sure why some paintings seem to just flow off the brush, but I'm not complaining :-)  I was going for the action of the water, waves, wind, surf, and of course the movement of the figure and dog.  Another personal favorite!
