Callie and Gabby

SOLD

8 x 8 Oil on Gessobord

This is Gabby and Callie dressed in their Christmas finest.  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed doing this commission (OK...I just did!).  I think these are two of the most beautiful Goldens I have seen.  What I enjoyed so much was trying to define two totally different dogs with different personalities, and not just painting twins.

Bluebird Up Close and Personal

SOLD

6 x 6 Oil On Gessobord

This poor little bird didn't fly south.  Apparently he never listened to what the other birds with more info were saying...Or he made the mistake of listening to the local weather on TV and assumed it was going to be hot and sunny.  Either way, I felt I should have given him a warm scarf and hot chocolate.  He wasn't as blue and red as I painted him, but I thought the bright red/orange might warm him a little :-)

This is All Mine!

6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord

This is one of the black Lab puppies from my cousin's kennel, www.jayhawklabs.com.  Her beautiful Labradors and French Bulldogs are a constant inspiration for me, and this particular puppy had the right idea.  He was not about to allow his puppy siblings to take his toy.  If I didn't know better, I'd say he was an only child :-)

Licking the Bowl

SOLD

6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord

Who doesn't like to lick the whipped cream bowl??  I'm pretty sure we all did it.  Whatever was in the bowl seemed to taste much better than the final product.  I think it still does :-)

Soulful Eyes

SOLD

6 x 6 Oil On Gessobord

This is Manny, one of my cousin's beautiful Labs.  I basically tried to paint Manny with very few strokes...Just the necessities.  At least what I saw as necessities :-)  I'm trying to let go of my need to put every detail in.  Manny was a joy to do.  I hope he likes the portrait and doesn't mind that I played a little with his likeness.

Pismo Beach Walk

7 x 5 Oil on Gessobord

SOLD

This is another painting that practically painted itself.  I'm not sure why some paintings seem to just flow off the brush, but I'm not complaining :-)  I was going for the action of the water, waves, wind, surf, and of course the movement of the figure and dog.  Another personal favorite!

Three Beauties

SOLD

5 x 7 Oil on Gessobord

Three faces, three different personalities, all totally focused on something going on outside.  Painting dogs seems to have a really positive effect.  It's like a mini vacation.  Every stroke brings the subject closer and closer.  It's really a very odd sensation.  I especially love the older Golden on the right.  He just has such a wise look about him, and he seemed to be studying me as I painted :-)

A Big Smile

SOLD

6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord

Some people might say dogs don't smile, but I know Lula does.  The reference for this painting was taken right after she came in from chasing her ball outside and she was a happy camper.  I seriously think she has the longest tongue ever, although the Vet has assured me that it's a normal length.  So...Here's Tallulah who gets the honor of being my first painting of 2015 :-)
